Brush your teeth at least twice a day, using a fluoridated toothpaste. It is especially important to brush right before you go to sleep at night. Your toothbrush should have soft bristles and a head that is small enough to reach all areas of your mouth. Replace your toothbrush every three to four months. Place your toothbrush at a 45 degree angle where your teeth meet the gums and brush back and forth using small, circular movements. Brush all of the teeth, paying special attention to the front and back teeth. Brush your tongue from back to front to prevent plaque and bad breath.

Floss at least once a day with whatever type and flavor of floss you prefer. Work the floss between the teeth gently. Curve the floss around each tooth and gently slide it under the gum line. Firmly move the floss up and down a few times to remove plaque.

Our dentists may recommend the use of oral hygiene aids such as a Waterpik or a mouth rinse in addition to regular brushing and flossing.

As part of maintaining good oral hygiene we also recommend that you:
• Eat a balanced died. By limiting your intake of sugary and acidic foods and eating a more nutritious diet you can prevent tooth decay and enjoy better overall health.
• Continue to visit our dentists every six months for preventive care. Regular dental cleanings and exams helps ensure that any problems are noticed and treated before they can cause significant damage.
