Oral cancer includes cancers of the lips, tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, hard and soft palates, sinuses, and throat. Oral cancer can be life threatening if not treated early. Let our dentists know if you experience any of the following symptoms:

• Swellings, lumps, or rough spots on the lips, gums, or in the mouth
• Red, white, or speckled patches in the mouth
• Bleeding in the mouth
• Numbness in the face, mouth, or neck
• Sores on the face, neck, or mouth that bleed easily and do not go away
• The feeling that something is stuck in the back of the throat
• Difficulty chewing, swallowing, speaking, or moving the jaw or tongue
• Chronic sore throat or a change in your voice
• Ear pain
• A change in your bite
• Dramatic weight loss

During your routine dental checkup, Dr. McKinley and Dr. Holloway may perform an oral exam in Shelby Township, Michigan. Our dentists will feel for lumps or abnormal tissue changes in your neck, face, head, and oral cavity. Our dentists will also look for any sores in the mouth and check for the symptoms mentioned above.
